GET TO KNOW

ALLISON SLETAGER

What’s your favorite way to start your morning before teaching?

I start every morning with a cup of warm lemon water. On days that I teach barre I try to make sure that I have the time to visualize my class choreo at least once in its entirety before heading to the studio.

Coffee, tea, or green juice?

Coffee! I have a slight addiction—but I also do love a good tea.

What’s your go-to post-yoga meal or snack?

I usually have a protein shake, smoothie, or greek yogurt.

What’s your current song or playlist obsession?

My music taste is all over the place! I usually let my mood determine my playlist and most of the time the music I listen to is pretty chill and vibey; however, I do love a good 90’s pop princess and/or rap artist.

When you are not teaching yoga, what are you doing?

When I am not teaching Barre I am teaching English and Yearbook at the high school, which keeps me really busy, but when I am not teaching at either place I always find time to work out, walk my dog, grab coffee with friends, and read good books.

What’s one thing your students might be surprised to learn about you?

I am a big time reader. I have loved reading since I was a small child and no genre is off limits; however, I not so secretly love fantasy series and devour them. If you need a book recommendation I’m your girl!

Describe yourself in three words.

What originally brought you to yoga?

I was originally attracted to both barre and yoga as they are both completely different from the workouts I had been doing as a competitive/college athlete.

How long have you been teaching yoga and what are your certifications?

I just started teaching Barre! I have a Level 1 Certification from the American Barre Technique, but have taken nearly a thousand barre classes while I worked at a Barre studio in Boise.

What’s your favorite pose right now and your “love-to-hate” pose?

I love the glute section of Barre class. Pretzel is probably my favorite move and I love/hate any variation of the barre’s “chair” sequence.

How do you want your students to feel when they leave your classes?

I hope that my students walk away feeling accomplished, strong, and ready for the day.

What’s the biggest lesson yoga has taught you off the mat?

The mat has taught me to meet myself exactly where I am.
